Aksum University builds standard 3500 seats multipurpose hall financing 300 million birr budget
Aksum University Construction Project Office Manager Mr. Berhe Mesfin states the variations which caused delay were made with the consultation of expertise to perk up quality of the multipurpose hall.
The Construction was started on December 2006 E.C to build modern multipurpose hall within 18 months. But the construction is not finalized yet.
Project Manager of the Construction Mr. Tsegay Belay states that the reason for lagging the project is recommendation for inclusion of 8 variations out of the agreement.
The contract provider, Aksum University Construction Project Office Manager Mr. Berhe Mesfin describes different quality merit based technological variations were included in order to commence standard of the hall.
Mr. Berhe says “since this multipurpose hall is targeted to entertain graduation ceremonies, national and international conferences as well as cultural festivities as an input for the emerging tourism development.”
Besides Project Manager of the Construction Mr. Tsegay divulges the hall is one of the biggest multipurpose halls built by higher institution in Ethiopia.
He confirms “now 99% of the construction is completed and we are looking for power supply to complete the testing and commissioning processes.”
The contract provider states that the university is communicating Ethiopian Electric Power Authority (ELPA) for additional power supply needed to generate the technologies on the hall.
The hall includes 2 mini conference halls offering 100 seats each, press briefing and control rooms, security rooms and other offices in its basement plus 3 complex building.
Modern technologies security cameras, voting mic, VIP addresses and modern sound systems have assembled on the hall.
The gates of the multipurpose hall indicate the symbols of walls of the lively obelisks in order to refer the Aksumite Civilization.
According to the Project Manager of the construction the project become center of experience sharing and skill transfer in addition to its accommodation of about 200 laborers’ per day.
