Empowering Innovation: Aksum University Hosts Historic Inaugural Female Researchers Conference

AKSUM, ETHIOPIA — In a landmark move toward academic inclusivity and scientific excellence, Aksum University officially hosted its first-ever Internal Female Researchers Conference at its Main Campus on May 6, 2026. Organized by the Research, Publication, Ethics, and Dissemination Directorate under the Office of the Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, the event was held under the inspiring theme: “Females in Research and Innovation: Advancing Knowledge in Science, Technology, and Development for a Peaceful Future.” The conference was inaugurated by Professor Gebreyesus Berhane, President of Aksum University, who delivered a powerful message on the institution’s strategic evolution. He highlighted that as a designated University of Applied Sciences, Aksum University is dedicated to bridging the gap between theoretical research and tangible, real-world solutions. “Structured academic engagement among women is not just a preference; it is an essential requirement for strengthening our institutional capacity,” Professor Berhane stated. “By creating specialized spaces for female scholars, we empower voices that ultimately benefit the entirety of society through diverse and innovative problem-solving.” This gathering was distinguished not only by its content but by its execution, marking the first academic forum of this scale to be managed and led entirely by female researchers within the university. From peer reviews to coordination and lifecycle management of the research process, these academics demonstrated they are at the forefront of both global and local intellectual leadership. The multidisciplinary forum featured four prominent female scholars who presented research papers addressing critical societal challenges, spanning vital sectors including clinical health outcomes, innovative agricultural solutions, and engineering advancements. To honor these achievements, the university held a formal certificate ceremony where Dr. Muzey Bahta, the Indigenous Knowledge Officer, extended her deep gratitude to the researchers and stakeholders for ensuring the event’s high academic standard. In his closing remarks, Dr. Mulugeta Berihu, Vice President for Academic Affairs, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to becoming a more gender-responsive center of excellence, noting that the forum illustrated the capacity of female researchers to leave a lasting footprint on society. As the session concluded, the message remained clear: Aksum University has laid a firm foundation for a future where female scientists are the driving force of progress.
