Introduction:
An organizational structure is the means in which unities and subunits in organizations are inter-related and grouped. It determines jobs and responsibilities of groups as well as specifies how subordinates report to their superiors. It enhances coordination in the activities of the members of the group, facilitates attainment of objectives, and helps in resource administration. In a similar manner our university is the owner of a clearly defined organizational structure that avails it to dispose and direct its overall activities. Hence our directorate as one sub unite of the university organizational structure tried to demonstrate its structure as follows.
Background of legal service directorate:
Aksum University is established by the regulation of the council of ministers of the federal democratic republic of Ethiopia No.225/2011 with different colleges, administrative directorates, and departments. Legal service directorate is one among the administrative directorates. The directorate is serving the university and its personnel by providing legal advices, standing in any tribunals representing the university. It is organized with one director, advocates, legal experts, assistant legal experts and secretary. All activities of the directorate are performed based on its real mission and vision oriented plan.

Vision: by providingquality, timely and professional legal services, our directorate will become one model directorate among five top models of the Ethiopian universities legal service directorates.
Mission: To provide due legal advices and comments so as our managers at any level make sound and legally informed decisions. Represent the university at courts and other tribunals to protect its interests.

Salient objectives of the Directorate
- The directorate Provide oral and written legal advices to decision-makers and administrators of the university.
- The directorate comments the regulations and directives of the university which are going to be issued and contracts going to be concluded by the university.
- Based on research, the directorate prepares drafts of directives and regulations of the university in conformity to civil and criminal law as well as polices of the country.
- The directorate studies best methods in which the university incurs its obligations and protect its rights dully.
- On behalf of the University, the directorate made educational contracts with the Academic and Staff workers of the University.
- The directorate represents the university in ordinary and irregular courts as well as similar institutions for litigation and arbitration.
