Textile Engineering Department
Established in 2005 E.C., the Textile Engineering Department at Aksum University has played a key role in providing expertise in textile and fashion technology within the region. The department has consistently contributed to Ethiopia’s growing textile industry by producing graduates equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Over the years, the department has faced numerous challenges, including infrastructure damage during the recent conflict in the Tigray region. Despite these setbacks, the department is poised to rebuild and realign its strategic goals, focusing on applied research, hands-on learning, and stronger industry partnerships.
Garment Engineering Department
Founded in 2011 E.C., the Garment Engineering Department began with just 3 staff members and 23 students. Today, it has grown significantly, housing 12 staff members and 1 technical assistant. The department focuses on garment construction, production management, and fashion design. Though its workshops and labs were damaged in the conflict, efforts are underway to restore these critical facilities. The department is also known for organizing the “SAB Fashion Show,” which successfully merges Ethiopian cultural heritage with modern fashion and technology.
Fashion Design Department
The Fashion Design Department established 2012 E.C., supports creative expression and innovation, with a focus on integrating Ethiopian culture into modern design. It has grown to employ 5 assistant lecturers who provide essential academic support in the department’s mission to promote sustainable fashion and textile innovation.
