AKSUM, ETHIOPIA – Aksum University and the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute have formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at advancing biodiversity conservation, scientific research, and sustainable community development. The landmark agreement was signed by Dr. Dawit Mamo, Head of Shire Campus with the rank of Vice President, representing Aksum University, and Dr. Karta Kaske, Director General of the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute. This partnership establishes a comprehensive framework for a long-term institutional relationship dedicated to preserving Ethiopia’s natural heritage and enhancing academic-research linkages.
The collaboration encompasses a wide range of critical scientific fields, including livestock genetic resource characterization, wildlife ecology, and extensive research into crop and horticultural systems. Central to the agreement is the strengthening of gene banking and environmental protection efforts, alongside the systematic documentation and integration of indigenous knowledge systems. By fostering joint research initiatives and resource mobilization, both institutions aim to facilitate technology transfer and the seamless exchange of scientific information to address pressing environmental and societal challenges.
