Aksum University, in collaboration with the Tigray Science and Technology Bureau, is conducting a specialized training program focused on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and patent development for its academic staff engaged in technology innovation.
The training, themed “Protecting Innovation, Advancing Technology Transfer, Creating Impact,” is designed to equip researchers with the knowledge to legally safeguard their inventions and enhance the commercialization of their work.
Dr. Seare Tajebe, Director of Industrial Linkage and Technology Transfer, emphasized the critical importance of the program during the opening session. He stated that without proper legal protection and practical application, the potential benefits of research for both the inventor and society remain severely limited.
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Desta G/Tekle, Special Assistant and Representative of the Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, welcomed participants and He outlined the training’s three core pillars: Intellectual Property Rights, Technology Transfer, and Impact Creation.
The sessions are being led by experts from the Tigray Science and Technology Bureau, Mr. Selemun Tsegay (Specialist in Data Management and Digitalization) and Mr. Gebretsadik Tesfay (Director of Intellectual Property Registration).
The initiative underscores the university’s commitment to transforming academic research into protected, market-ready technologies with tangible societal impact.
