In a collaborative effort to support its new students, Aksum University successfully conducted a comprehensive life skills training program on November 22, 2025.
The full-day program was attended by nearly 2,000 freshmen students and was designed to equip them with the necessary tools to navigate the academic and personal challenges of university life.
Collaborative Initiative and Opening Remarks
The training was a joint initiative organized by the University’s Quality Improvement Directorate and the Student Career and Entrepreneurship Office, in partnership with the Women and Social Affairs Inclusive and Implementation Executive Office.
Dr. Mulugeta Berihu, the Academic Affairs Vice-President, officially opened the session. In his remarks, he underscored the critical role life skills play in fostering students’ holistic development and academic achievement.
Key Topics and Expert Facilitation
The program was facilitated by experts, including Mr. Teklay Gebremedhin from the Psychology Department. The curriculum covered a wide range of essential competencies, such as:
- Self-awareness
- Effective communication
- Time management
- Goal setting
- Building self-confidence
Mr. Teklay highlighted that the transition to campus life, often away from family, presents unique challenges, making such training vital for a smooth and successful adaptation.
Positive Feedback and Future Recommendations
Participants praised the session for its significant value in supporting their personal and professional growth. There was a collective recommendation for the institution to establish recurring events of this nature to foster ongoing student development.
