Aksum, Ethiopia (May 21, 2026) – Aksum University today hosted a workshop focused on enhancing educational excellence under the theme, “Improving Educational Quality by Strengthening Active Learning Processes.” The primary objective of this program-level quality audit workshop was to disseminate findings from internal quality audit reports and strategize on the effective implementation of active learning across the university. The workshop underscored the importance of aligning higher education institutions with their national missions, with a particular focus on establishing transparent administration, implementing strategic plans, fostering a sense of institutional ownership, improving grievance handling mechanisms, and developing an accountability system driven by Key Performance Indicators. In his opening remarks, Dr. Mulugeta Berihu, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Aksum University, emphasized that this quality improvement initiative is vital for the university’s institutional growth. He noted that the program is designed to integrate with applied science directives, address fundamental institutional challenges, and foster a positive ethical transformation within the workforce. The workshop featured several scholarly presentations and robust discussions. Dr. Tsegay Brhane, Director of Educational Quality Assurance, presented a document outlining the core objectives and the comprehensive scope of the quality audit process, while Dr. Hiluf Negash, an officer from the quality center, delivered a detailed presentation on the strategies and progress regarding the implementation of active learning methodologies within the university. Furthermore, representatives from the Adwa Textile and Fashion Technology Faculty and the Referral Hospital shared audit findings from their respective departments. These presentations provided practical insights based on internal audits conducted across 25 different academic programs. The event concluded with an interactive session where participants’ questions and comments were addressed by relevant experts. Dr. Mulugeta Berihu delivered the closing remarks, commending the successful completion of the workshop and reiterating the university’s commitment to academic rigor.
