Federal Ministry of Education Concludes Comprehensive Institutional Review at Aksum University

Aksum, Ethiopia – September 22-25, 2018 E.C.

A high-level delegation from the Federal Ministry of Education has concluded a system-wide institutional review of Aksum University across all its campuses.

The multi-day assessment involved in-depth consultations with the university’s entire community. The delegation engaged in separate, structured dialogues with ordinary staff, academic and administrative professionals, lower and middle-tier leadership, and the University’s Management Council. The objective was to conduct a critical diagnostic of institutional challenges and to identify the university’s strategic strengths and areas requiring reinforcement.

A particularly critical issue raised was the unresolved disbursement of employee salary arrears dating back to 2014 E.C., which was cited as severely detrimental to staff morale. Furthermore, operational impediments related to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), curriculum revision processes, and budgetary procedures were thoroughly discussed.

Ministry officials acknowledged the challenges and committed to collaborating with the university to implement solutions. The event concluded with a reminder to the university community to “think and work hard like the Aksumites,” reflecting on the city’s historic legacy.
