A Day of Honor and Distinguished Guests
Aksum University proudly marked its 15th graduation ceremony with a vibrant celebration for its undergraduate and postgraduate students. The event, held on June 16, 2017 E.C. (July 23, 2025 G.C.), saw a gathering of esteemed individuals, including:
- Honorable Laureate Professor Mitiku Haile, Founder and former President of Mekelle University, and a revered Board Member of Aksum University.
- High-ranking officials from the North-West Zone, Central Zone, Shire Endaselassie City, and La’elay Maichaw Woreda.
- Respected religious leaders, local elders, and specially invited guests.
- The University’s senior and middle management, dedicated faculty members, staff, current students, and the proud families of the graduating class.
President’s Address: Resilience and Future Vision
During the ceremony, University President Professor Gebreyesus Birhane delivered a heartfelt message of congratulations to the graduates and their families. He powerfully highlighted the University’s incredible journey of resilience:
Professor Gebreyesus further underscored the University’s significant achievements, including outstanding performance in the national exit examination, the successful completion and inauguration of numerous construction projects, the establishment of advanced laboratory and demonstration projects, and remarkable progress in expanding other vital infrastructure works.
A Mandate for Service: Words to the Graduates
In a compelling message, Professor Gebreyesus urged the new graduates to carry their knowledge forward for societal betterment:

The President of the Student Union delivered a warm congratulatory speech. Subsequently, Dr. Mulgeta Berihu, Vice President for Academic Affairs, offered his well wishes and presided over the prestigious awards ceremony.
Dr. Tesfaalem Hadush, Director of Aksum University’s Main Registrar, provided the detailed graduation statistics:
Total Graduates: 1155
Undergraduate Programs: 964 students (686 Male, 278 Female)
Postgraduate Programs: 191 students (149 Male, 42 Female)
The distinguished Cup Award winner from the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering is Aklilu Abrha.
From the College of Business and Economics, the top-performing female student honored with a Cup Award is Yibralem Teklay.
