Over View of AIT

The Aksum Institute of Technology (AIT) was established through the transformation of the former College of Engineering at Aksum University, as part of Ethiopia’s strategy to accelerate industrial development, the government restructured several engineering colleges into autonomous Institutes of Technology. Officially launched in 2019, AIT aims to enhance engineering education, applied research, technology transfer, and university-industry collaboration. Initially composed of core departments such as Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Institute has since expanded its academic portfolio in response to local and national development needs. Currently, AIT comprises seven faculties—four at the Aksum University main campus, one at Adwa campus, and two at Shire campus. Its academic programs follow a dual structure: five-year undergraduate curriculums for engineering programs and four-year curriculums for technology programs, aligned with national education reforms. Since its inception, AIT has played a vital role in producing competent graduates, advancing innovation, and supporting Ethiopia’s industrialization and socio-economic progress.
